James Joyce shocked the world when he recreated the events of a single Irish summer’s day, as his comic novel followed the lives of a colorful medley of Dublin characters on June 16, 1904, from sunrise til the pre-dawn hours of the following morning.  Every year on June 16, around the world, Joyceans gather to celebrate “Bloomsday” in honor of the book’s chief protagonist, Leopold Bloom.  Bloomsday features global readings of Joyce’s Ulysses, from Beijing to Boston, from Auckland to the Arctic.  Staten Island is no exception, as OutLOUD hosts its annual Bloomsday celebration with readings by some of our own “local characters.” Wear 1904 costume if you like, or just a fanciful hat!  Please note that this event is for ADULTS ONLY.
